Curved out of Kotido district, Abim district with an area of 2337 sq. km came into existence in 2006. It is bordered to North by Kotido district, in the East by Moroto and Amuria district Lira to the South West and Pader in the west.

Tourist Attractions include springs, wetlands and some seasonal rivers.
