Curved out of Kotido district, Abim district with an area of 2337 sq. km came into existence in 2006. It is bordered to North by Kotido district, in the East by Moroto and Amuria district Lira to the South West and Pader in the west.

Adjumani
Adjumani with an area of 3,087 sq km is bordered by Arua, Moyo and Yumbe to the west, Gulu to the east and south while Sudan is to the north.

Curved out of Katakwi district, Amuria made up of former Kapelebyong and Amuria counties came into existence in 2005.

Formerly part of Lango district, Apac district with an area of 6541 sq. km lies north of Lake Kyoga. It is bordered by Gulu in the north, Nakasongola in the south, Masindi in the west and Lira to the east.

With an area of 5,611 sq km Arua is bordered by Nebbi in the south, Gulu and Adjumani to the east, Sudan in the north while Yumbe is to the north east, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west.

Budaka district established in 2005 was curved out of Paliisa District. It is bordered by Mbale in the east
Bugiri
Created in 1997, Bugiri district has an area of 5,611 sq km. It is bordered by Iganga in the west and north, Mayuge district in the south west, Busia district and Lake Victoria in the east, while Tororo and Kenya are to the north.
Bundibugyo
Curved out of Toro kingdom, Bundibugyo district with an area of 2261 sq. km came into existence in 1980. It is bordered by Kasese in the south, the Democratic Republic of Congo in the west, Lake Albert in the north and Kabarole to the east.
