The sculpture of a lady holding a baby represents the independence of Uganda – of 9th October 1962. It was made by Gregory Maloba.

The sculpture stands in the heart of Kampala city near Sheraton Hotel. Other monuments include Makerere University administration block, clock tower, the CHOGM and Kabamba monuments.
