Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Situated in the south western corner of Uganda, Mgahinga with an area of 38.6 sq. km is the smallest National Park in Uganda. Comprising of 3 extinct volcanic mountains – Gahinga, Sabinyo and Muhabura; the park borders Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mgahinga was proclaimed with the primary aim of providing sanctuary to the rare mountain gorilla.

Gorilla trekking is the most popular activity in this park though it is dependent on the seasonal movement of Nyakagezi group.

The park also supports the Golden Monkey, Forest Hog with and a birdlife of 185 species including 12 endemics.

Access: The drive from Kampala to Kisoro via Kabale takes a minimum of 9 hours with Mgahinga being 13 kms from Kisoro town.

Where to Stay: Recommended accommodation facilities include Mount Gahinga Lodge and Kisoro Traveler’s Rest Hotel.
