Ajai Wildlife Reserve

Located in Nebbi, Ajai Forest Reserve is 15,800 ha with an altitude ranging between 670 - 850m. The distinguishing feature of this reserve is the presence of Ajai's Island from which the reserve derives its

name. The island lies in the middle of a seasoned  water logged swamp called Ala that is fed Rivers Ala and Acha.

River Nile forms the major drainage for the reserve in the east while rives Ala, Acha and Linya drain the peripheries into the Nile.

The reserve was specifically gazetted to protect the White Rhinoceros which later became extinct in Uganda save for the few that are now at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Other large mammals such as Antelopes and Buffalo can be spotted in the reserve.
